"Just one dollar, are you sure" I said this to myself in front of my phone. I was going to Barcelona alone and my budget was really tight. On QEEQ I saw this One-Dollar Freeze thing. At first I thought it was some kind of trick. Then I read the small text more carefully and saw that I only needed to pay 1 dollar first to lock the car. That day I picked a Volkswagen Polo from Budget. Manual gear. Four doors. A small car but it looked fine. It was around the night of March 19. I was sitting on my bed and checking my trip money. Flight, stay, food. After I counted everything, the money in my card started to look low. I was not sure if I should pay the full car price right away. I was worried that if I paid all of it, the next few days I would feel very tight. I opened the booking page again and looked at the line that said One-Dollar Freeze. I felt less stressed right away. So I just paid that 1 dollar. When the payment message jumped out, I checked the amount on purpose to make sure it was really 1.00 and there was no strange fee. I thought okay the car is safe now and my bank card feels lighter. I could wait until it was close to my trip to pay the rest. A few days passed. Around March 21 I was packing my bag and I suddenly remembered the car. I opened my email and my bank record. I wanted to see if the rest of the money was taken. It was already charged by them and there was no extra fee or interest. The number was the same as what I saw before. I just looked for a second and closed it. I felt like everything was under control and that feeling was pretty nice. On March 21 afternoon I arrived in Barcelona and the next day close to the evening on March 22 I went to the Budget counter to get the car. The staff only checked my booking and my license. The process was the same as a normal prepaid booking. They did not ask me anything special. I did not need to explain how I paid. They just gave me the car. A thought crossed my mind that if I had paid full at the start just to feel safe, I would probably be more broke now. During the whole time I did not care much about how the payment system worked because it felt like they planned the steps for me. In my memory I just paid 1 dollar first and then they took the rest before the trip started. Step by step it was done. I am a bit afraid of seeing big numbers on my bill so this way with a small payment first and then auto charge later felt much easier for me.
