"Only one dollar first and I can book this car" I kind of said this to myself when I saw the option on QEEQ. I wanted to rent a Nissan Almera in Bangkok around the middle of June. I would land late at night and pick up the car around the midnight of the 11th, then return it on the evening of the 22nd. I already paid a lot for flights and hotels, so when I saw the One-Dollar Freeze option I really felt some pressure leave my mind. At first I was worried. I thought maybe they will charge more later or add some hidden fee. On the page it was written very clear that I only pay 1 dollar first to lock the car. The rest is taken automatically before the rental starts and there is no interest. I did some simple math. This way my credit card would not be too heavy that month. I did not need to put the full rental cost on it at once, so I decided to try it. When I clicked confirm I stopped for a few seconds. I was thinking "Is it really just one dollar" After payment I got a bank alert and it was really only a tiny amount. I felt like I already got this car for myself but my wallet was still safe for now. It was like I saved a spot. I could prepare the rest of the money slowly. In those days I could focus on other costs I had. A few weeks later I logged in again to check my trip. The booking was still there. The car type was still the Nissan Almera that I chose. I felt calm at that moment. I felt that this payment plan was not just some trick. When the trip date was close, I checked my credit card bill. The rest of the rental fee was already taken automatically. The amount was the same as I saw before and there were no extra strange charges. For someone like me who is still kind of a student and needs to watch my budget, this thing where I only pay 1 dollar to secure the car and then pay the rest closer to the start really helps a lot. I do not need to ask my family for too much money at once. My card limit also stays more free. During the whole time I almost did not worry about the payment. I just needed to remember to check my bill on time. This easy feeling is not common for me when I book things online.
