My credit card limit was under some pressure because I also had hotels and flights to pay. This plan made my card feel a lot lighter. When I think back, around March 3 I really felt how useful this payment style was. In those days my company added some budget approvals and they moved slowly. I thought if I had paid the full rental price at the beginning, some other bookings might have been stuck. With only 1 dollar frozen, I could adjust other expenses more freely and my mind stayed calm. On March 5 around one in the afternoon I went to the car rental counter in Rome airport to pick up the car. The process was smooth. I knew very clearly that the rest of the rental fee would be charged before the start, so at the counter I did not worry about being overcharged or charged at a strange time. The staff at the counter only handled the car and the contract. I just focused on checking the car and asking about cross border fees. The payment part was already simple for me. During the next days when I drove the SUV from Italy toward France, I sometimes thought that without this pay 1 dollar first plan I might have waited to book or picked a smaller car. With this flexible payment plan I could lock the car early and let my credit card handle the full cost later instead of taking the whole hit at once.
