AXA Full Coverage

What can you do when you get a big damage fee on a rental car in another country? This really happened to me in Paris. I booked my car on QEEQ. I went to pick it up around the afternoon of May 5 in the city. It was a Peugeot 208 with automatic gear. The car was small and easy to drive and the whole trip felt okay. On the return day, around the afternoon of May 13, I brought the car back on time. I also filled up the fuel. The Europcar counter staff walked around the car, looked very quick, and did not say anything. I thought everything was fine and it was over. A few days later I checked my bank and saw a pretty big extra charge. I just froze for a second. What is this fee? I felt nervous and also a bit angry. I was thinking maybe they charged me for something that I did not know about. I contacted the rental company and they said it was related to damage, but they explained it in a very unclear way. I honestly could not remember any clear damage moment and nobody told me anything when I returned the car. Then I remembered that when I booked the car I added AXA Full Coverage. I started to think. Will this insurance really help me or is it just something useless that I paid for? I decided to try. I collected what I could find from my side. I had the charge slip from the rental company, my rental contract and some email screenshots. Then I reached out to their customer service and said I was charged a damage fee and I wanted to make a claim. After that the whole thing became a bit heavy for me. There were many numbers and bank details. They asked me for my account number and also IBAN and Swift code. At first I did not really understand these things. Sometimes they needed more correct information and I had to check my bank paper or the bank website. It felt like doing homework. I was a bit annoyed in my mind. But the fee was not small and I did not want to just give up. So I kept going step by step and tried to answer everything as clear as I could. During this time they also checked with the rental company. Later they told me that the rental company did charge me for real damage and they showed a clear damage amount. When I heard that I felt speechless but also a bit calm because at least it was not some random fee with no proof. After that I needed to confirm the claim amount and also confirm my bank info again. I made some mistakes with the details and they asked me to correct them. I went back and checked all the digits slowly and made sure my account number IBAN and Swift code matched. The process was not easy but I could feel they were helping me move the case forward. At last they told me that AXA Full Coverage had approved my claim and the final payout was set. It was basically the part that I paid for the damage. They also said the money would be sent to my bank account. When I finally saw the payment arrive in my account I felt a big relief. I had this feeling that buying this insurance was not a waste. When I think about it now if I did not have AXA Full Coverage I would probably just have to pay the whole damage on my own. It is really hard to fight with a rental company in another country and it is not easy to make things clear. This time the process took some effort but at least the damage fee came back to me in the end and that part was really important for me.

AXA Full Coverage

"There is a small dent on the bonnet." When the staff at the Europcar counter in Geneva said that on my return morning, I just froze. I had booked the car through QEEQ and drove a BMW 1 Series automatic. I thought dropping off the car would be very smooth. Then he pushed a paper to me and the bill showed 569.31 euros. My heart just sank. My first thought was that I was really glad I bought AXA Full Coverage. Without it, this amount of money would be a big pressure for me as a young person who just started working. After I left the counter that day, I went back and kept thinking about what happened. I sorted all the papers from the rental desk and kept every photo and bill. When I drove on the mountain road earlier, a small stone flew up from another car and hit the bonnet. It left a small dent. It looked not so serious at that time, but it still became a damage cost. Then things got a bit messy. The rental company sent me some emails. They went into my junk folder, so I found them very late. When I finally saw them, the total amount was already over six hundred euros. I stared at that number and felt nervous. I did not really understand why it was higher than the first 569.31 euros. I was also worried that the insurance side would get confused by this. I started to explain the situation to them. I found the first bill from Europcar that clearly showed 569.31 euros. I also checked the later emails where the amount increased. I noticed the extra part was actually interest and collection fees, not the original car damage. I wrote this very clearly and told them what the real damage cost was. Then I checked my UK bank details again. I made sure my name, IBAN and everything were correct because I did not want any mistake to slow down the payment. During this time, I sometimes looked at the email chain and still felt worried. I was scared that I did not explain something well or that one document was wrong. Every time they sent me more questions, I opened the bill and read it line by line. I kept pointing out that 569.31 euros was the damage itself and that the rest was just interest and late fees. My English is only at a high school level so my sentences were simple, but I tried to be direct so they could understand me easily. After some time they told me that the claim would be paid based on 569.31 euros. When I saw that email, I finally let out a long breath. Later the money arrived in my bank account and I checked the number again and again. It matched the first bill from the rental desk. At that moment I really felt lucky that I had AXA Full Coverage. A tiny stone and a small dent turned into a big bill, but this insurance covered it. For someone my age, having the damage paid back like this and seeing the claim end in a clear and fair way means a lot to me.

One-Dollar Freeze

I asked myself a question first. Do I still have money on my card for a car. The day before I spent 100 USD on a pair of shoes. On this Europe trip I also paid 92 USD for a place to stay. Then in Japan I spent 70 USD on shopping. My card limit felt really tight and I thought renting a car in Paris would take a huge payment at once. Then I saw the One-Dollar Freeze option on QEEQ. It said I only pay 1 dollar first to lock the car and the rest will be taken from my card automatically before the rental starts. I felt so relaxed when I saw that. I told myself that 1 dollar is fine for me right now. Time jumps to early June. I am going to pick up the car in Paris. It is around the evening on June 9 and the sky is still a bit bright. I pull my suitcase to the Alamo counter. They show me a Renault Trafic. It is automatic with four doors and nine seats. The car is long and the silver grey color looks cool under the lights. I stand next to the car and I remember I only paid 1 dollar when I booked it. It feels a bit unreal. One or two days before the pickup I got a message on my phone that the rest of the rental fee was charged. The amount was just right and there was no extra cost. I checked it and then I just went on with my day. During this whole thing my main feeling is that my credit card did not feel much pressure. I already spent a lot on shoes and places to stay and shopping. If I had to pay the full car rental at the start I might need to cancel some other plans. With this plan I only paid 1 dollar first and the booking felt very light. When it was close to the pickup time the rest was charged and the timing felt easy to handle. As a solo traveler I did not feel nervous about money all the time. This simple One-Dollar Freeze made it much easier for me to arrange the car booking.

Dedicated customer service

I was actually very excited about this rental. I booked it on QEEQ and planned to pick up the car in Mulhouse around the end of March, I think it was about the afternoon of March 26. I chose a BMW 5 Series or similar because I wanted a nice executive car, even if I was traveling alone. I thought the drive would feel a bit special. When I got to the Budget counter and heard there was no car like the one I booked, my mood dropped right away. They first told me they could give me an MG SUV. I told myself it was fine and at least the car would be bigger. Then they said that one was gone too. I was standing by the counter with my suitcase, feeling like I was being pushed around. I booked early and did everything right, but on the day it felt like I had no control. In the end they gave me a 2008 Mercedes. The car looked old and it was very different from the executive style I expected. I felt disappointed and also a bit angry. After I left I contacted their customer service team and explained the whole thing. I said very clearly that I felt the car was a downgrade and not the same level as what I booked. I was worried they would just brush me off. They kept checking on my case and asked what kind of solution I wanted. They also explained what the rental company said. Sometimes I got busy and replied after a few days, but every time I came back they still remembered the case and continued from before. I did not feel like a random new person each time, which made me feel safer as a solo traveler. We discussed the compensation many times. I did say I hoped for a bit more because I really booked it for a BMW 5 Series type car. At one point I thought maybe I should just give up and let it go. They did not get impatient. They kept talking with me and explained what they could really do. In the end they gave me a cash refund and some membership benefits, and that made the whole bad part of the experience feel more balanced for me. As someone who travels alone, my biggest fear is having a problem and no one really helping or listening. Even though the car I drove was not what I planned, the way the team followed my case and cared about how I felt made a big difference. I did not feel like I was fighting a big company by myself. I felt like someone was honestly trying to fix things for me, and that feeling of being looked after mattered more to me than the exact car model.

One-Dollar Freeze

“Only one dollar, is this real?” That was my first question when I saw the One-Dollar Freeze on QEEQ. I was abroad and I did not feel very safe paying the full amount online. I was also worried that my plans might change and my credit card would feel very tight if I paid everything at once. I still decided to try it. The page said they would only take 1 dollar first. In my head I was like “if there is some hidden fee then I am in trouble”. After I booked, I checked my credit card bill. I only saw that 1 dollar and nothing else. I felt much more relaxed. A few days later I started to worry again. I asked myself “When will they take the rest of the money? Will they charge some extra strange fee?” Around one or two days before my pickup date I checked my email and my bill again. I saw that the rest of the rental fee was charged automatically. The amount was the same as the price I saw at the start. There were no extra service fees. I felt it was pretty honest. During that time I was also counting all my costs in Paris and I was a bit stressed. If they took the full rental price at the beginning my credit card limit would be very tight. Because I could lock the car with just 1 dollar first I felt less nervous in the weeks before. I did not need to stare at my card limit every day and think if I could still pay for something. When it got close to the pickup day and the rest was charged automatically the whole thing felt easy and my card was not under big pressure. For someone like me who travels abroad and wants to keep some limit for emergencies this way of paying a little first and the rest later works very well. On this booking my credit card felt much lighter and I did not feel so much money pressure.

Price Drop Protector

How did that extra money just show up in my account? I stared at the bank alert on my phone for a second. My trip was the same. Same Alamo car in Ajaccio. Same dates. But my balance was a bit higher. Then I remembered I chose their Price Drop Protector when I booked. Let me jump back. That day I was alone in front of my laptop. I checked the pick up time at Ajaccio airport again and again. Around the evening of July 16. Return about a week later in the early evening. I travel alone and my budget really matters. I kept doing math with euros and Polish zloty. I looked at that Peugeot e2008 automatic and I really wanted it. At the same time I felt my wallet hurt a little. On the booking page that extra service caught my eye. It said if the price went down later they would rebook the same car for me and give me the difference back. My first thought was “Will the price really drop”. Then I thought it does not cost me extra effort. It is like opening a small umbrella over my money. I clicked confirm. The email came fast and I wrote the order number in my notes. After that I just stopped thinking about it. Life went on. Stuff from school. Things at home. Trip prep. I had no chance to watch car prices every day. One night I was on my phone and saw a new confirmation email. It said my booking was confirmed again. I thought I had clicked something wrong. Then I looked closer. It was still the same Alamo Peugeot e2008. Same time and place. The price was lower and the difference was already sent back to me in PLN. That moment felt pretty cool. I did nothing. My plan did not change. It was like the same car suddenly had a discount. For a student who plans trips alone this money is enough for one night in a simple hostel or a decent dinner. I could picture myself sitting on a street in Ajaccio at night ordering one more drink and not counting every coin. I did not need to talk to their customer service. I did not have to explain anything. It all just happened quietly in the background. For someone traveling alone this feeling that they help you save money without you doing anything feels very safe. That night when I booked on QEEQ and ticked that little box I was really giving my future self a bit more space.
